Interested in reaching out?

Hello lovely human! Thank you for visiting my personal site.

I often receive messages from people who’ve read my writing on grantmaking or biosecurity and want to schedule a call to hear more about my takes. These emails surprise me every time. I’m very honored that people actually read my writing! What?

But I want to make sure I can be helpful to you if you’re considering reaching out, and the (semi-awkward 🥲) truth is that I’ve already written down basically all of my strongest takes. If you’ve read my blog and ask me about a topic I’ve covered, the in-person version is usually just a summary of my posts – without the hyperlinks!

So before you reach out, a quick sorting guide:

• Probably skip the call if you want my general takes on something I’ve written about. Read my writing instead! It’s free, it’s faster, and written-word-me is more articulate than live-me will be. (For a helpful categorization, see here.)
• If you disagree with something I wrote (or just have thoughts), please say so! The best place is a comment on the post itself – it makes the disagreement useful to other readers, and it helps the algorithm surface my writing to more people :) If you’d rather stay anonymous, I have an anonymous feedback form too.
• Do reach out directly if you’re interested in a project I’m working on. For example: I’m currently working on a course for AI safety grantmaking, and if you’re a grantmaker willing to review the material, I would love to hear from you – even 20 minutes of feedback on one module would be incredibly useful.
• Also reach out if you have a project you’d like to discuss, a question you’d like my takes on, or you know something I don’t. Those conversations are fun, and you’ll get a version of me that isn’t just reciting old posts :)
